Branich Motorsports - A Featherlite Modified Team

Leaty Wins Heat, Grabs 4th in Oswego ROC Feature
Oswego, NY - The Branich Motorsports NASCAR modified team made the short tow to Oswego Speedway for the August 2nd Race of Champions Modified Tour race. Driver Jan Leaty almost scored a perfect night.

Forty-four modifieds were on hand to try to gain a spot in the 27 car starting grid. Leaty started 6th in the second heat race. He powered his Pace Electronics/Heluva Good Foods Pontiac into the lead with two laps to go, and took the checkered flag comfortably in front. After the qualifiers were set, the top 12 redrew for position; Leaty would start ninth for the 50-lap feature event.

An early race caution took out two front runners, moving Leaty up to 7th. From there, he methodically picked his way to the front. At the halfway point, he started a spirited battle with front runner Pete Brittain. Leaty took the lead on lap twenty-eight, only to have Brittain charge right back. The two raced side by side for several laps, while George Kent and T.J. Potrzebowski joined the mix in a four car breakaway. Leaty and Brittain bumped several times, with the next two cars ready to pounce. The last contact was with five laps to go, sending Leaty high exiting turn four. Kent and Potrzebowski were able to scoot through, and Leaty settled in fourth. Brittain was able to hold on for the win, followed by Kent, Potrzebowski, and Leaty. Rusty Smith rounded out the top 5.

The top five finish was the second in as many weeks, as Leaty grabbed third in the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Series Farmer's Pride 150 at Adirondack International Speedway last weekend.

"We've had a competitive car all season, but just have had terrible racing luck," said Leaty. "We have kept working hard and we have finally turned the corner."

The team will begin preparing for their next Featherlite Modified Series race in early September at New Hampshire International Speedway. For more information about Leaty, Branich Motorsports, and their 2003 sponsors, visit the team website at www.speedwayad.com/BranichMod.
