Branich Motorsports - A Featherlite Modified Team

RACING FOR KIDS

A big cheer for the team from the students at North Rose (NY) Elementary (Branich Motorsports Racing for Kids program)

In 1998, the Branich Motorsports "Racing for Kids" program was started. The program was designed to use the sport of automobile racing, one of the top spectator sports in the United States today, as an aid for teaching. Team members and elementary school teachers jointly develop a custom curriculum using some aspect of racing to teach a variety of grade-appropriate topics. The team visits each school, and the racecar, hauler, and support equipment and safety gear are displayed and used to present a particular topic. Generally, the children attend a didactic session, and then they have a chance to look at the car up close, ask questions and talk to team members. They are able to walk through the trailer, and at the end of the tour they are provided pictures for coloring and team autograph cards signed by the driver.

To date, "Racing for Kids" has been used to teach pattern recognition for kindergartners, aspects of teamwork and safety to second graders, and the science of simple machines and advertising to fifth graders. The visits are always eagerly received by the kids and teachers alike, and are equally rewarding and enjoyable for team members.

Branich Motorsports again promoted its "Racing for Kids" program during 2003, and the Branich Motorsports NASCAR modified will be an integral part of our presentations this year. Lyons National Bank, Lyons, NY, will be the 2008 "Racing for Kids" sponsor.

Since the Racing for Kids Program began, the team has visited many area schools, including the French Road Elementary School in Brighton, NY, the Florentine Hendrick Elementary School in Wolcott, NY, the North Rose (NY) Elementary School, the North Rose-Wolcott (NY) High School. Preschool age children from area programs and several Cub Scout and Webelos packs have traveled to the team’s Williamson racing facility for presentations.

With the support of the Williamson (NY) Rotary Club, the team traveled to Camp Onseyawa (a summer camp for disabled children), in Ovid, NY, in 2002. That same year, driver Jan Leaty emceed the Sodus, NY, Cub Scout Pinewood Derby. In 2003, the team traveled east to Hoosick Valley (NY) High School for a day long presentation to the business and technical classes.

Please join us in supporting our children. They are our future!
